Scherrie Payne, an accomplished screenwriter and songwriter, was discovered by renowned Motown producer Eddie Holland. Scherrie signed with Holland’s label, Invictus, and fronted their act, Glass House, who charted with the single, “Crumbs Off The Table,” written by Scherrie. Her affiliation with The Holland Brothers and Lamont Dozier brought Scherrie to be a member of The Supremes in 1973. THE GENESIS PROJECT: Classics. Harmony. Soul.
Performers

The Genesis Project is a sophisticated exploration of performances that defined The Temptations and paved the way for generations of R&B. From the intertwining of intricate five-part harmonies to the gritty, experimental textures of "Psychedelic Soul," the show celebrates the songs that served as the blueprint for the American soundtrack. This is a night where the voice is the primary instrument, honoring the songwriters, the producers, and the incomparable vocalists who turned three-minute records into timeless masterpieces.

The show is the brainchild of three world-class vocalists who have spent years studying the

nuances of the Motown songbook and the complexities of soul music's vocal architecture.

Jalen Harris: Best known for his starring role as Eddie Kendricks in the Broadway

national tour of Ain't Too Proud, Harris is a master of the "sweet" soul sound. An

American Idol alum, his crystalline falsetto and technical precision bring a rare

authenticity to the group’s early balladry and high-tenor leads.

Harrell Holmes Jr.: Bringing the foundational depth required for true soul harmony,

Holmes garnered critical acclaim for his portrayal of bass legend Melvin Franklin in the

Ain't Too Proud national tour. His resonant tone and rhythmic vocal timing provide the

essential heartbeat of the project’s acoustic and harmonic structure.

Marcus Paul James: A standout veteran of the Broadway community, James’s credits

include Ain’t Too Proud, In The Heights, Rent, and Motown: The Musical. As a

renowned singer-songwriter and vocal arranger, James bridges the gap between the

vintage sound and modern vocal technique, ensuring the musicality of the project is both

historically accurate and sonically fresh.
